Polish games firm CD Projekt has decided to change its name to CD Projekt Red following a vote at the company's general meeting on June 23. The decision aims to unify the company's name with that of the CD Projekt Red studio, which was established eight years after CD Projekt's founding in 1994. The management believes that this name change will help in maintaining consistency in communicating the CD Projekt Red brand and enhancing global market identification.
CD Projekt Red, known for developing The Witcher series, is currently focused on projects like The Witcher 4, a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, and a multiplayer game set in The Witcher universe. Additionally, the company is working on its first original IP, Project Hadar. The GOG storefront, previously under CD Projekt's umbrella, was sold at the end of 2025 to one of its founders for $25 million.
Following the sale, GOG's managing director mentioned that the deal was initiated by CD Projekt and emphasized the differing strategies between GOG and CD Projekt. CD Projekt Red North America is also involved in developing a multiplayer game codenamed Project Sirius.
