South Korean island communities and famous fishing towns have become a hotbed of illegal gambling activity, police have warned.
Authorities in South Korea have raised concerns over the surge in illegal gambling operations in island communities and well-known fishing areas. The police recently seized approximately 15 million won, equivalent to nearly $10,000, in illicit gambling funds from a covert betting syndicate on Wando Island in South Jeolla Province, as reported by the South Korean media outlet Maeil Ilbo.
These fishing communities have drawn attention for their involvement in clandestine gambling activities, prompting law enforcement to intensify efforts to crack down on such operations and curb the spread of illegal betting in the region.
