Italy's 34BigThings Spins Out from Embracer Group

Italian studio 34BigThings has spun out of games conglomerate Embracer Group.

Game Developer reports that the company's co-founder Valerio Di Donata has bought 100% of the studio's stock from the European giant, making 34BigThings the second-largest independent game developer in Italy. The studio, known for titles like Carmageddon Rogue Shift and Redout, is now returning to full independence, allowing them autonomy over their projects and development approach.

According to Di Donata, the studio's future looks promising with the announcement of a major title later this year, followed by more projects in the pipeline for 2027 and 2028. Embracer Group had acquired 34BigThings in 2020 as part of its series of game purchases, but now the studio, led by co-founder Giuseppe Enrico Franchi, is set to operate independently.

Embracer Group has undergone significant changes, splitting into three separate entities: Asmodee Group, Coffee Stain Group, and Fellowship Entertainment. The final spin-off, Fellowship Entertainment, aims to enhance management focus and leverage the potential of IPs and game developers, as stated by former CEO Lars Wingefors.
