Online casino usage is becoming rampant in Japan, despite recent high-profile crackdowns and harsher punishments for gamblers and operators.
According to a study by the Japanese anti-gambling NGO, the Society Concerned About Gambling Addiction (SCGA), online casino users in Japan are accumulating significant debt. The SCGA, which offers counseling for gambling addicts, interviewed over 460 individuals to uncover these trends.
The study's results highlight a concerning trend of escalating debt among online casino users in Japan, reaching an average of $69,000 per individual. This comes amid increased regulatory efforts to curb excessive gambling and enforce stricter penalties on both players and operators.
