The CEO of FromSoftware parent company Kadokawa Corporation, Takeshi Natsuno, has retained his position after an activist investor group tried to oust him.
The CEO of Kadokawa Corporation, the parent company of FromSoftware, Takeshi Natsuno, has managed to keep his position following attempts by an activist investor group to remove him. Despite facing a drop in shareholder support from 90% to 59.68% over the past year, Natsuno remains in charge. The Hong Kong-based activist investor group Oasis Management sought to replace Natsuno, citing a perceived 'material profit leakage' from the popular game Elden Ring.
Following the Annual General Meeting (AGM), Kadokawa stated that it would review its management structure, executive compensation, and the progress of its medium-term business plan. Oasis Management, which became Kadokawa's largest shareholder in March, expressed concerns about the company not fully leveraging the success of Elden Ring. In response to this, FromSoftware released a multiplayer spin-off game called Nightreign in 2025, selling over five million units.
The Elden Ring film adaptation, helmed by Alex Garland and set to premiere on March 3, 2028, is another project generating buzz. Additionally, Chinese tech giant Tencent holds a 7.97% stake in the parent company of FromSoftware.
