Data suggests highly-anticipated title generated $180 million in digital pre-orders across the US and five key European markets.
Grand Theft Auto 6 amassed around $260 million in digital pre-orders in the final week of June, with $180 million coming from the US and five major European markets (UK, France, Spain, Germany, and Italy). Pre-orders for GTA 6 commenced on June 24, with the game priced at $79.99 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S as a digital-only release. Newzoo projects that Rockstar's much-awaited title could achieve sales between $3.3 billion and $5.2 billion by the end of its launch week in November.
The data analytics company anticipates that GTA 6 will align with the standard sequel pre-order trend, with pre-orders constituting 5.8% of the total sales. It is forecasted that GTA 6 is poised to hit $4.5 billion in sales by launch week, selling an estimated 51 million units at its average price.
Newzoo's management consultant Ronan Patrick debunked claims circulating on social media, stating that GTA 6 did not secure a billion dollars in pre-orders 21 weeks before launch. He emphasized that the $180 million in digital pre-orders in the US and the top five European markets during the final week of June translated to a global opening week of about $260 million, with substantial growth expected. Patrick emphasized that even under a conservative interpretation, GTA 6's initial sales figures are remarkable by historical standards.
