Red Rover Interactive, the developer behind Enginefall, is planning to lay off 22 employees and has postponed the release of its debut title until 2027. CEO Fred Richardson mentioned that the extended development timeline for Enginefall necessitates a downsizing of the team. Despite engaging over 200,000 players at Steam Next Fest, the studio realized the need for further work on aspects like new player experience, performance, cheat protection, and overall game quality.

Playtesting for Enginefall will persist, with larger closed sessions set to restart later this year. Richardson assured that the studio is providing support to those affected by the job cuts through a specialized games recruiter and leveraging its network to aid in finding new roles. Red Rover Interactive, established in June 2023, received around $5 million in initial funding from Behold Ventures and The Games Fund. The company's focus on the survival genre was driven by a perceived market opportunity for growth in that segment.

Following its initial funding, Red Rover secured an additional $15 million, with Krafton, Tirtra Ventures, and Overwolf among the investors. This funding injection was primarily aimed at supporting Enginefall, which was previously known as Project Coltrane.
