Sony Enforces Stricter Guidelines on PlayStation Games

Sony is reportedly enforcing "stricter guidelines" against so-called "shovelware" PlayStation games. Sony is cutting ties with Afil Games due to alleged shovelware practices.

Sony is tightening its guidelines by ending its partnership with Afil Games due to the alleged shovelware practices. Afil Games confirmed on social media that PlayStation's new rules led to the termination of their collaboration. Despite this, Afil's existing titles like Chico's Delivery and Damways are still purchasable on the US PlayStation Store.

Following the removal of numerous games in January, including those from ThiGames, known for quickly produced, low-quality content, Sony aims to improve the overall gaming experience on its platform. While shovelware games may be popular for some players seeking easy achievements, Sony's move signals a shift towards quality over quantity in its game offerings.

ThiGames, along with a few other developers, had a significant presence on the PS4 and PS5 stores prior to the cleanup, highlighting the prevalence of shovelware content in the PlayStation ecosystem.
