Games for Change (G4C) has announced that its annual festival will be hosted in a new city during odd-numbered years, starting with Arizona in 2027.
Games for Change (G4C) is set to expand its annual festival to new cities, with Arizona State University (ASU) in partnership for the event next year. The festival will take place in Arizona from October 11 to 13, marking the beginning of this new city rotation strategy. ASU's Endless Games and Learning Lab will provide support to G4C participants, offering access to game design courses.
The collaboration between G4C and ASU will extend to research projects focusing on AI, game ecosystems, and the role of games in workplace learning. In odd-numbered years, the festival will be hosted in different cities, while in even-numbered years, it will return to New York. Due to increased attendance, the festival will revert to a three-day schedule, accommodating the growing number of in-person visitors.
Games for Change president Susanna Pollack expressed the importance of widening participation, stating, "Bringing the Festival to Arizona State University is about widening the room, so more of the creators, developers, educators, and researchers doing this work can be part of it." ASU Endless Games and Learning Lab founding director Mark Ollila highlighted the partnership's focus on competency-based learning paths and skills development through microcredentials.
