Xbox Insider Program members will be able to play one-hour sessions for free, supported by ads.
Microsoft has initiated trials for ad-supported game streaming on Xbox. Participants in the Xbox Insider Program can opt for one-hour game streaming sessions at no cost, backed by advertisements. While ads will precede each session, the fundamental gameplay will remain unaltered. Involvement in the trial is voluntary, with players having the option to explore alternative playing methods at any point.
Xbox emphasized that the advertisements on its platform aim to bring value and meet the same quality standards as its content. The company clarified that the purpose of the trial is to offer more individuals cost-effective gaming options on their existing devices.
The firm noted that advertising has been part of gaming for many years, ranging from in-game placements to free-to-play structures. However, it acknowledged that advertising has not always been tailored to benefit players. When executed effectively, advertising can help reduce access costs, providing players with additional avenues to engage with games without an initial streaming purchase, thus broadening the gaming community.
