OneBGS files legal complaint after employees were allegedly told they would remain employed until September, but were served termination letters last week
Bethesda union OneBGS has filed a legal complaint against the developer for allegedly violating labor laws in Canada. The union claims that Bethesda issued termination letters to Canadian employees at Bethesda Montreal affected by recent Xbox layoffs, contradicting earlier assurances of continued employment until September. The union alleges that the termination letters offered minimal severance without consulting the union, including eight weeks of pay in lieu of notice and immediate loss of group benefits.
These accusations are part of broader claims that Xbox conducted layoffs unlawfully, prompting an unfair labor practice charge against Microsoft and its subsidiaries, including Xbox, ZeniMax Media Inc, Id Software, and Bethesda Game Studios. The unions CWA and CWA Canada jointly filed complaints alleging that Microsoft fired employees without notice during ongoing collective agreement negotiations. In response, Xbox stated its commitment to engaging in effects bargaining and supporting impacted employees through the transition.
